varno – za bolnike s celiakijo! / safe – for patients with celiac disease!

Kaj bodo dosegli:

  • V projekt bo vključenih 50 ponudnikov hrane brez glutena (trgovine, gostinski lokali, hoteli, mali slovenski proizvajalci). Na nepravilnosti bodo opozorjeni in pozvani k njihovi odpravi.

In celiac disease, the only treatment is a lifelong 100% gluten-free diet. With this project, Celiac Slovenija aims to organize the gluten-free food market, which is currently dangerous and opaque due to numerous new providers and non-compliance with applicable regulations. The project will involve identifying suppliers, requiring correction of errors, and conducting appropriate training with them. Close cooperation with the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary, and Plant Protection will be maintained, and additional strict monitoring of gluten-free food production and supply will be demanded. The project will address the Government of the Republic of Slovenia with a proposal for a correction of the Slovenian translation of the Regulation, which prescribes the method of labeling gluten-free foods. The existing translation allows for incorrect use of labels that should help celiac patients recognize safe products. The campaign will lead media advocacy on social media to raise awareness about safe gluten-free diets and highlight differences between safe and risky foods for celiac patients.

What they will achieve:

  • 50 gluten-free food providers (shops, restaurants, hotels, small Slovenian manufacturers) will be involved in the project. They will be alerted to irregularities and required to rectify them. Five online training sessions will be organized, focusing on correcting identified errors. Findings from the market will be reported to the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary, and Plant Protection, with a demand for strict monitoring of the gluten-free food market. Violators who do not respond appropriately to our call will be reported to the relevant state authorities. The project will involve 7–10 members of the society.
  • The project aims to improve the safety of the gluten-free food market. At least 60% of verified providers will adjust their offerings in accordance with the applicable regulations. This will place celiac patients in a more equal position when choosing safe food.
  • By correcting the translation of the Annex to the Implementing Regulation of EU Commission Regulation No. 828/2014, the number of unauthorized nutritional claims on gluten-free product labels will be reduced.
  • Through a social media campaign, public awareness in Slovenia will be increased. They plan a 10% increase in the number of users on our networks who will be informed and actively engaged (sharing and liking content).
