spremljaj_spreminjaj eu / monitor_change eu

The purpose of the campaign, taking place in the month before the European Parliament elections in Slovenia from June 6 to June 9, 2024, is to monitor the statements of candidates vying for a seat in the European Parliament on fundamental human rights and European values. Throughout the project, we will focus on candidates' statements on issues such as asylum, migration, human rights, the rule of law, and democracy. We will verify the accuracy of these statements and highlight any potentially false/misleading information—also referencing the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. We will publish both the verified and unverified information on the PIC website, on social media profiles where PIC is active, and through banner ads linking to project posts in three major online media outlets (24ur.com, siol.net, and N1). We will also directly notify the statement maker of any inaccuracies or misleading nature of their statements. The goal of the campaign is to expose false/misleading information to voters as extensively as possible, while also emphasizing the values on which the EU is built through communication.

ACHIEVEMENTS

On social media (Facebook and Instagram) and on the project website, we highlighted 21 statements by candidates for European Parliament that we deemed false, misleading, or malicious and justified our assessment. We informed candidates for MEPs about ten statements that were false, misleading, or malicious. We also highlighted four contentious statements after the final debate on RTV on June 6th.

On social media (Facebook and Instagram), posts about false, misleading, or malicious statements and the project link were seen by 121,570 people. On the project's "Spremljaj_spreminjaj EU" tab or individual news with analysis of the statements, there were 12,578 clicks. Ads were shown to users of N1 Slovenia, Siola, and 24ur.com media websites with a total of 713,088 impressions.

On social media and the PIC website, we posted 15 posts about fundamental human rights stemming from the EU Charter. On social media, we also posted 5 additional posts that raised awareness among users about either fundamental rights or the importance of reliable information during the pre-election campaign and the significance of the European elections overall. These posts reached 3,568 people on Facebook.
