mesta z vizijo: dialog v urbani skupnosti / cities with a vision: dialogue in the urban community

Kaj bodo dosegli:

Njihove aktivnosti bodo prispevale k zavedanju javnosti o pomembnosti kolesarjenja, varnosti kolesarjev v cestnem prometu in trajnostne mobilnosti.

  • Ozaveščanje in aktivacija občanov/prebivalcev: Poseben poudarek so namenili kolesarskim ozaveščevalnim akcijam in aktivaciji občanov/prebivalcev v obeh mestih. Organizirali bodo serijo javnih dogodkov za ozaveščanje o prednostih kolesarjenja, varnosti v prometu in trajnostni mobilnosti.

Overview

"Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the bicycle became the dominant mode of transportation in cities?" The project by the Maribor Bicycle Network and the Ljubljana Bicycle Network takes on this ambitious idea in the urban municipalities of Maribor and Ljubljana. Their main goal is to promote cycling as a sustainable and healthy alternative to motorized transport and to contribute to the improvement of cycling infrastructure and traffic policies in both cities. The problem affects society in multiple ways, including greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, noise, traffic jams, reduced quality of life, and inadequate and unsafe cycling infrastructure.

Approach

They will actively raise public awareness and inform about the benefits of cycling and foster relationships with municipalities and cycling communities. Their approach includes diverse public events, roundtables, discussions, and workshops, where they will listen to local community opinions and encourage the exchange of ideas. Using an online platform, they aim to facilitate easier communication and information sharing. Despite existing plans and strategies for sustainable mobility, their implementation is hindered by various factors. Inspired by best practices from abroad, they aim to establish cooperation between municipalities, the cycling community, and other stakeholders, believing that this will lead to better results and greater effectiveness in efforts towards sustainable mobility. "Together, we can take a step forward in developing sustainable mobility in cities. Join us on the path of cycling for a better tomorrow!"

Objectives and Activities

  1. Awareness Campaigns
    • Their activities will contribute to raising public awareness about the importance of cycling, cyclist safety in road traffic, and sustainable mobility. They hope to contribute to improving cycling infrastructure and establishing effective cooperation between municipalities, NGOs, active citizens, and other stakeholders.
  2. Advocacy
    • A critical part of the project is advocacy work, which includes three workshops with focus groups, an analysis of the current state of infrastructure, and the preparation of action plans for improvements. This will strengthen the role of active cyclists, establish a dialogue between users and municipal officials, and increase cooperation between NGOs to improve cycling infrastructure.
  3. Citizen Awareness and Activation
    • Special emphasis will be placed on cycling awareness campaigns and activating citizens in both cities. They will organize a series of public events to raise awareness about the benefits of cycling, road safety, and sustainable mobility. These events include cycling awareness campaigns (cycling breakfasts, be seen initiatives, safe side actions), critical masses, mobile cycling workshops, guided tours, and a comprehensive survey on satisfaction with cycling infrastructure. A series of postcards on the topic of cycling will also be produced.
  4. Guidelines for Effective Local Partnerships
    • One of the key project outcomes will be guidelines for municipalities, focusing on public inclusion and cooperation with civil society in infrastructure planning. They will conduct a consultation to enable active participation of relevant organizations and participants and the exchange of best practices.
