kolesarjenje za vse / cycling for all

Kaj bodo dosegli:

  • Invalidi kolesarji bodo postali bolj vidni v javnosti in medijih.

The project “Cycling for All” addresses the challenge of exclusion faced by people with disabilities from society, sports, and environmentally friendly mobility. Zavod Uvid Rogaška Slatina aims to shift public mindset and show that this exclusion does not stem from disability itself but from the unadapted nature of society. To cycle, people don’t need two hands or even legs – they just need a bike adapted to their physical abilities. Many people think that persons with disabilities cannot cycle. Even decision-makers do not consider people with disabilities or involve them in planning bike paths, public bike rental schemes, and cycling events. Many people with disabilities themselves believe that they cannot cycle because they do not know that suitable bikes, cycling paths, and companions exist for them. In public images, texts, and videos about cycling, there are typically no images of people with disabilities; if there are, they are often professional athletes. The project aims to change this and enable people with disabilities to get on a bike, becoming more independent and “green mobile.” They are preparing a large awareness campaign, public events for the disabled community, billboards, photographic exhibitions, a database of images of disabled cyclists, and examples of best practices in inclusive cycling.

What they will achieve:

  • More people will know the challenges faced by people with disabilities and how to help them overcome these challenges so they can also cycle. This will increase understanding and respect for people with disabilities who wish to cycle and be part of the community. Their goal is to reach at least 5,000 people with their activities.
  • Disabled associations will gain knowledge and skills that will help them promote cycling among their members and in their communities. They will involve at least 20 disabled associations from Slovenia, with at least one-fifth of them starting to actively share this knowledge among their members.
  • Disabled cyclists will become more visible in public and media spaces. Their goal is to create an online bank of images of inclusive cycling, with 50 photos of disabled cyclists. These photos will be freely available to anyone who wishes to use them, allowing people with disabilities to finally take their place in media publications, tourism promotions, and business brochures.
  • Awareness among people with disabilities about the (un)possibilities of cycling will be increased. At least 100 people with disabilities will be involved.
