The data include associations, institutes and foundations. The data on persons employed in associations also comprise data on society branches and youth councils, and data on institutes comprise data on religious communities having the humanitarian organisation status. The data exclude the associations, institutes and foundations that have been established by the Republic of Slovenia, municipalities or other public sector entities.

The number of persons employed in NGOs has been growing in recent years. Associations and institutes employed more persons than in the last year. Only in foundations the number of employees vary from year to year.

More than a half of the persons employed in non-governmental organisations are working in institutes, followed by persons working in associations and in foundations.

The vast majority of NGOs (as much as 92.68%) do not have a single employee, the largest percentage to be found in associations (as much as 95.53% of all associations) and the lowest in institutes (73.91% of all institutions). In terms of the number of employees in the organization, institutes lead the way, which also employ more than half of all workers in the sector. Otherwise, 4.47% of associations, 26.09% of institutions and 5.81% of institutions have at least one employee.

 

THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN AN NGO WITH REGARD TO ITS LEGAL FORM (2023)

 

On average, a Slovenian NGO has 0.5 employees. There is considerable fluctuation to this average if we consider each legal form separately: on average, an institute has 2.17 employed persons, association has 0.25 employees and the foundation has 0.22 employees.
